BUFFALO, NY -- On Friday, February 8th, Nicc Johnson padded the stat sheet with 22 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists, while leading Bryant & Stratton College - Buffalo past Bryant & Stratton College - Greece with a final score of 107-81.
Before things started in Burt Flickinger Athletic Center for yet another inter-school match up between Bryant & Stratton College - Buffalo and neighboring Bryant & Stratton College - Greece, there was a bit of tension in the air. Dropping five of their last six, Buffalo was in desparate need of a "W" in the win column. However, the Greece Campus had something to prove, looking to avenge a loss earlier in the year to Buffalo on their home court.
In the first half, both teams started the game by getting hot from the outside. Nicc Johnson stepped beyond the three-point line and scorched the net from deep. Mitchell followed Johnson's lead and got a couple of easy lay ups, while Damone Brown Jr. spotted up from the perimeter. Combined, Johnson went from 11 points, Mitchell for 10 points, and Brown Jr. for 9 points.
For the Greece Campus, it was Jerrale Bouie who would keep them in the game. Bouie went 3-3 from the three-point line and finished with 13 first-half points to lead all scorers. Aside from Bouie, there was also the lightning quick guard play of Maleek Mason, who only scored 5 points in the first half, but additionally controlled the tempo of the game and was responsible for Bouie finding himself open from the outside.
In the second half, again, it was senior leadership that got things going for Buffalo. Johnson continued to score from wherever he wanted, and this time, he would bring more help with him. Taijay Williams, for one, went 5-6 from the three-point line and scored 18 points in the second half. Brown Jr. went 2-3 from three-point land himself, finishing with 19 points on the night. Mitchell remained consistent, scoring 17 points and grabbing 7 rebounds.
In the end, there wasn't enough fire power for the Greece Campus and Buffalo pulled away. Maleek Mason finished with 15 points and 5 rebounds, while Manny Sierra went 3-3 from three-point land to score 17 points on the night, but in a losing effort.
