BUFFALO, NY - The inaugural season of women's basketball at Bryant & Stratton Buffalo gets underway in less than four weeks. "I can't wait to get my name announced as the head women's coach for the first time in November," Perry said with a big smile. "We've put together a challenging schedule for our first season, but it's one I think our women can handle. I think this schedule gives us many opportunities to grow and get better."
Before the regular season starts, the Bobcats will get to experience the thrill of playing in a NBA venue when they play an exhibition game at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, home of the Cleveland Cavaliers, against the Ohio campus of Bryant & Stratton College at 1:30 pm on October 30. It is a double-header event with the men's teams of the BSC Rochester and Ohio campuses playing at 3 p.m. The Buffalo Bobcats participated in the men's game last season.
The Bobcats will open the season with four consecutive home games, the first coming on November 2nd when they take on Fisher College from Boston, MA at 5 p.m. BSC Buffalo will play it's home games at the Erie Community College Burt Flickinger Center (21 Oak Street). The first road test comes on Nov. 16th at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA. They will then participate in the Betty Abgott Tournament hosted by Buffalo State College on Nov. 22-23. The Bobcats will take on the host Bengals at 3 p.m. in the opening round contest.
BSC Buffalo will play five of it's seven games at home in December. They open the month with a home contest against against Wilberforce University of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) on Dec. 4. They also end the month with a home contest when they host Point Park for the teams' second meeting of the season on Dec. 22.
The Bobcats ring in the new year with a trip south to Hialeah, FL to participate in the Beach Bash Classic hosted by Florida National University. Starting on Jan. 2, the Bobcats will play three games in as many days against the University of the Virgin Islands, the host Conquistadors and the Apprentice School. The month of January is one that will see the Bobcats become road warriors as they play eight of nine games on the road. That continues with three straight away from home to open the month of February before they close the season with two final home games against Bryant and Stratton Rochester (Feb. 12) and Central Penn (Feb. 16).
Tournaments like the Betty Abgott and the Beach Bash are great opportunities for our players to play good competition and multiple games in a row which is what we will need to be conditioned for if we want to play in the postseason," Perry said. "Our home opener against a quality team in Fisher will give me a good understanding of where we are at."
"We want to get better and grow together every day. That is going to be our challenge everyday. But our long term goal is to compete in the postseason, which is something I believe we have the talent to do."
