BUFFALO, NY - For the second consecutive season, the Bryant & Stratton Buffalo Bobcats are heading to the National Tournament. BSC Buffalo earned the fifth overall seed, the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) announced Tuesday in a nationwide selection show.
After advancing to the Final Four a season ago, the Bobcats will have a chance to extract revenge on the same team that knocked them out when the matchup with the fourth-seed Bluefield State in the first round next Thursday at 4 p.m. on the campus of Penn State Fayette in Furnace, PA. The Big Blues edged out the Bobcats in a tightly contested Final Four contest 65-62 last year.
"We faced a lot of adversity this season but we figured out how to push through everything as a team," BSC Buffalo head coach Damone Brown said. "We did enough to prove we are one of the best teams in this tournament and we intend to prove that on the big stage. Bluefield State is a strong team. Everyone in this tournament is good and we know that. It means we have to work even harder."
The Bobcats finished the regular season with a 19-10 overall record and played 17 games on the road. They challenged themselves tremendously, taking on teams from the NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA and USCAA. They have already surpassed last year's win total of 17 and will look to end this year with 22 wins and a National Title.
They are led on the court by National Player of the Year candidate Jonathan Range who ranks sixth nationally in scoring (19.9 ppg) and fifth in rebounding (9.4 rpg). Junior Tyrell Mitchell is the team's second leading scorer (16.6 ppg) and was a Second Team All-American last year.
The National Tournament kicks off on March 11th at the Seven Springs Mountain Resort where a championship and All-American banquet will be held before the Division II title games. A skills competition will follow with games beginning on the 12th. For all tournament information, please click HERE.
