BUFFALO, NY - After leading the Bryant & Stratton Buffalo Bobcats to their second consecutive National Tournament and earning First Team All-America honors, senior Jonathan Range has been selected as the College's 2020 Male Athlete of the Year.
The Harlem, NY native joined the Bobcats for his senior year and added leadership, toughness and plenty of positives on the court, helping BSC Buffalo reach a program-best 19 wins and a top-five ranking in the country throughout the season. He averaged a team-best 19.6 points and ranked fifth nationally across the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). He shot 51.3 percent from the floor and 36.2 percent from beyond the arc while also leading the team in rebounding (9.3). He shot 81.4 percent from the free throw line while also totaling 81 assists, 51 steals and 16 blocks.
"Jonathan was a great teammate, player and man this season," Head Coach Damone Brown said. "He showed tremendous leadership and was a calm figure throughout the season. He was consistently one of the last ones out of the gym, getting in extra work and trying to improve his game. He was unselfish and a tremendous person to be around. He represented our program with the highest integrity."
On December 17th, Range was selected as the USCAA Men's Division I Athlete of the Week after averaging 23 points for the week and picking up his third double-double of the season. He began the week scoring 21 points and securing 10 rebounds against nationally-ranked Erie Community College. He had four offensive rebounds, added two steals and went a perfect 4-4 at the free throw line as well. Then, in a come-from-behind 86-83 overtime win over Bryant & Stratton Albany later in the week, Range again was the game's high point man, scoring 25 points and adding five rebounds, two assists, two steals and zero turnovers. He shot 50 percent from the floor in both games this week and was 15-18 from the free throw line.
