Bobcats Seek First Vaden Cup This Weekend in Buffalo
BUFFALO, NY - This weekend, in Buffalo, NY, the Bryant & Stratton Buffalo women's basketball team will compete for its first ever Vaden Cup as the Vaden Athletic Conference (VAC) Tournament gets underway.
BUFFALO, NY - This weekend, in Buffalo, NY, the Bryant & Stratton Buffalo women's basketball team will compete for its first ever Vaden Cup as the Vaden Athletic Conference (VAC) Tournament gets underway. Buffalo enters the tournament as the number two seed and faces third seeded Syracuse at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the opening round. Top seeded Albany recieves a bye to Sunday's championship game with the women's side having just three competing teams this year.

Buffalo finished the regular season with a 15-10 overall record and went 2-2 in conference play. They finished the season with a win over Syracuse last Friday, coming from 10-points down in the second half to secure the number two seed. They have been ranked in the top five of every USCAA National Coaches Poll this year and currently sit third. Bids for the USCAA National Tournament will be released Thursday at 4:45 p.m.
They were led this year by All-Conference junior guard Kat Kanhoye, who is averaging 17 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.3 assists this year. She has also totaled 50 steals. Fellow All-Conference selection Nia Caver is averaging 10.9 points and 9.1 rebounds. The junior is also averaging 3.9 assists and had totaled 53 steals.
Buffalo finished the season winning three straight and six of seven. In those six wins, the Bobcats averaged 75.5 points per game and out-scored their opponents by an average of 12.5 points per game. For the season they are averaging 72.6 points and more than 48 rebounds per game.
This Bobcats team has two seniors. Alissa Johnson and Rachel Bruneel were honored last week as the first graduating class in program history. Johnson is a two-time USCAA All-American and this season is averaging 9.7 points. She has scored in double-figures in four straight games heading into the conference tournament.
Syracuse is led by NCAA Division I transfer Jehiah Cook, who was recently named the Conference Player of the Year. She is averaging 21.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.4 steals and 4.1 assists. Traynise Delaney is also stuffing the stat sheet, scoring 19.1 per game and also securing 8.7 rebounds. Syacuse finished the regular season 11-6.
The winner of Saturday's semifinal game will advance to the Championship against Albany set for Sunday at 2 p.m. Buffalo is coming off an overtime loss in last year's championship game to Rochester and is looking to avenge that loss this weekend. All tournament games will be played at the Burt Flickinger Center located at 21 Oak Street in Downtown Buffalo.
