Cold Shooting Dooms Bobcats in Loss to UMFK
BUFFALO, NY - A cold shooting night proved too much to overcome as Bryant & Stratton Buffalo dropped a 64-56 contest to Maine Fort Kent on Saturday in day one of the Bobcat Bash played inside the Buffalo State Sports Arena. Juniors Ashlynn Johnson and Ja'Da White-McConnel paced Buffalo with 13 points apiece, but it was Maine's Skye Dugan who led all scorers with 30 en route to the road win.
Buffalo made just one three pointers on 17 attempts. White-McConnel made the lone three. They shot just 32.9 percent from the floor and 58.3% from the free throw line. White-McConnel had the only individual shooting percentage over 50 as she was 6-9 from the floor, while also securing 10 rebounds, good for her first double-double of the season.
The Bobcats held a 29-26 advantage at the break but started slow in the third quarter, allowing UMFK to come out of the second half gates hot and outscore them 23-9 over those 10 minutes. Buffalo was able to mount a comeback, pulling within two, 56-54 with 2:58 left after White-McConnel connected on a corner three.
After another Maine bucket, White-McConnel answered again to get back within two, but a 6-0 Bengal run ended the game.
Buffalo had 27 turnovers, 18 in the first half, to just 16 total from UMFK. That proved to be the difference in the game as each team made just one three and shot a similar percentage from the floor. UMFK had 20 points off those 27 Bobcat turnovers.
Senior Chy Isom finished with a game-high 19 rebounds, while fellow senior Saige Roberts had a team high five assists.
